My LAST trip…

Longboat Key, Florida March 2020

Yes, I’m starting a travel blog at a time when the world has been told to stay at home.  I may be a bit crazy!

I will pop back and forth with current trips and trips that we’ve taken as a family when the kids were younger.  Plan on hitting it all!  Let’s start with the LAST trip I took before the world was ordered to stay home.

My mom LOVES sunsets on the Gulf coast of Florida.  If you have ever heard the term the “Green Flash” then you know what I am talking about.  It is illusive, but I personally think I have seen it a handful of times.  It is a mix of a natural event….and your eyes playing tricks on you so I’m never really sure!

My mom cracks me up because when it comes to west coast Florida trips she doesn’t count the days she counts the sunsets!  I was able to join her for three sunsets in early March and they were beautiful.

We joked about how it would not be a bad place to be quarantined! This was when cruise ships were just about the only people being quarantined and we had NO idea that just one week later we would be staying in our own homes.  My mom only lives 15 minutes away, but in this new world of social distancing it seems like the other side of the world!  Don’t worry we do connect everyday, more than we normally would and enjoy FaceTime conversations even though we rarely have makeup on and may not have showered in the last 48 hours!

We stayed on Longboat Key, FL in a rental my mom found.  She actually spent several days there, and I joined her for a few just after my sister had joined her as well.  It was wonderful spending time with her one on one and I’m sure my sister would say the same.

It is rare for me to have a “relaxing” vacation so I soaked this one up.  We read books, walked the beach and ate in every night.  Our dinners were our favorite, SNACKING!

Even though it is hard to get away, we all have so much going on, try to prioritize this for yourself.  What feeds your soul?  For me the ocean has always been a big part.   Listening to the sounds of waves regenerates my spirit and puts me “right” again for a while.  That is NOT the case with my husband.  He is not a water sign at all and really has no interest in the beach.  Any time we have gone it is because he knows I love it so much.  He is okay with me getting away to the beach every once in a while, to get my fix.  I look forward to doing it again!
